I asked his opinion about drug prohibition. He said, he favors legalization and easy access. He said that crime would drop massively, prisons and jails would empty, costs would go down, pushers would go out of business, and the addicts would all die off, with a net savings of vast amounts of money to tax payers. He also expressed that it will never happen because too many people are on the governments' payrolls, and who will, there, work against repeal.
I asked his opinion about citizen possession of fire arms. He said, he favors EVERYONE being trained in the safe use of guns and encourages ownership and responsible use.
I asked what proportion of the police, as a guesstimate, agree with him. He said, there are 800 country deputies and 900 portland police, and his estimate is that three quarters of all of them hold the same beliefs.
I loved it.
